Courses without a website
Academy apps without a website get their courses from the dashboard's Courses page. Changes show in the app right away.
Courses
Select Add course and give it a title, a description, a cover image (PNG or JPEG, up to 2 MB, ideally 1280 × 720), a price (empty for a free course), an instructor, a level and categories. Turn off Students can see it while you're still working on it.
Sections and lessons
Open a course to add sections, and lessons inside them. A lesson has a video address (a video from your Media library, YouTube, Vimeo or a video file's https address), text shown under the video or as the whole lesson, and its length in minutes. Turn on Free preview for everyone to let anyone open a lesson before enrolling.
Free and paid courses
- Free courses: students enroll from the app on Android and iOS.
- Paid courses: bought on Android through the card payment page (see Card payments). The iPhone app shows no purchase buttons, as Apple's rules require; students who bought elsewhere learn on iPhone too.
Paid orders appear on the Orders page.
Adding a student yourself
Sold a course another way? Open the course and use Add a student by phone with the number they sign in with. They must have signed in to the app once.
Progress
Students' progress is saved as they complete lessons, and they continue where they stopped on any device.
Files with lessons, and lessons that open later
Under Files, add up to 10 files a lesson comes with, one per line, as Name | address: a file's link from your Media library (worksheets, slides, PDFs) or an https address. Students open them from the lesson.
Fill in Opens after (days) to open a lesson some days after the student enrolls: 7 opens it a week later. Until then the app shows it locked, with the day it opens.
Quizzes
Open a section to add a quiz after its lessons. Give it a title, a pass mark (70% by default), the number of attempts (empty for no limit) and a time limit in minutes (empty for none). Write its questions as text:
Q: Which planet is the largest?
- Mars
* Jupiter
Q: Pick the vowels
* a
- b
* eStart each question with Q: and put each answer on its own line, with * before a right answer and - before a wrong one. A question with several right answers asks students to choose all that apply; one with only True and False is a true or false question. A question counts when exactly its right answers are chosen. Students see their score as soon as they send their answers; the right answers never reach the app.
Certificates
Turn on Give a certificate to students who finish in the course's details. Students who complete every lesson and pass every quiz get a certificate in the app, with their name, the course, the date and your app's logo and colour, ready to print or save as a PDF. Each certificate has its own code, so anyone with the link can see it's real; it shows the student's name only.
Access that ends
Fill in Access for (days) to close the course for each student that many days after they enroll, for courses sold for a term. The app shows students when their access ends. Leave it empty for access that doesn't end.
Students' progress
On a course's page, under Students, select Progress and quiz results. You see each student's progress, the lessons they completed, their best score in each quiz, when they last learned, when they finished and when their access ends. Below, each quiz shows how many students took it, how many passed and their average best score. Select Download CSV for the same list as a spreadsheet, with a column for each quiz.
The wishlist is available with a WordPress LMS, not with courses managed in Yallapp.
