Install the WordPress plugin

The Yallapp plugin connects your WordPress website to your app. It finds your course, shop or booking plugin and serves its content to your app, live. You install it once, and it updates like any other plugin.

Before you start
  • WordPress 6.0 or later, with PHP 7.4 or later, on https
  • One of the supported plugins: Tutor LMS, LearnPress, LifterLMS, MasterStudy LMS, Sensei LMS, Masteriyo or LearnDash for courses; WooCommerce for a shop; Amelia, BookingPress or LatePoint for bookings
  • Nothing for sign-in: we send the one-time codes on WhatsApp. Digits is optional (see Sign-in codes below)
  • An active Yallapp account, with access to License & plugin
  1. 1

    Download the plugin

In your dashboard, open License & plugin and choose Download plugin. You get a .zip file. Don’t unzip it.

  2. 2

    Upload it to WordPress

In WordPress admin, go to Plugins › Add New Plugin › Upload Plugin, choose the .zip file, then select Install Now and Activate.

  3. 3

    Activate your license

A Yallapp item appears in the WordPress admin menu. Paste your license key there and select Activate. See Activate your license.

  4. 4

    Check what the plugin found

The Compatibility status card shows which course, shop and booking plugins it found, with their versions, who sends the sign-in codes, and whether Digits is active. If something you use shows Not found, check that it's installed and active.

  5. 5

    Sign-in codes

People sign in to your app with their phone number and a 6-digit code. In the plugin's Sign-in settings, choose who sends it:

    • Sent by Yallapp (WhatsApp), the default: we send each code on WhatsApp, through waabek.com, with your app's name. Nothing to set up; it needs your active license. The code is made on your website and kept there only as a hash, for 5 minutes and 5 attempts. We pass the phone number and the code on to WhatsApp and keep neither.
    • Digits: the codes go out through the SMS or WhatsApp gateway set up in Digits. This needs Digits' REST API add-on; without it, the choice shows as not available.

Do you use Digits without its REST API add-on, for example with only the Additional SMS Gateways add-on? Then we send the codes, and nothing changes for your members: the app finds each account by the phone number saved by Digits, so people sign in with the same number and keep their accounts, progress and orders. Your website's own Digits sign-in keeps working as before.

If the choice you saved can't send codes (Digits without its REST API add-on, or no active license), the plugin uses the other one and the settings page says so, in plain words.

  6. 6

    Choose your settings

The plugin's settings decide how your app behaves. The most important ones:

    • Sign-in: who sends the sign-in codes (see above), whether new accounts can sign up from the app, what they're asked, how long people stay signed in, what happens at the device limit, and Store review access (a test number and fixed code for Apple and Google reviewers)
    • Purchases: the Enroll now button on Android, free enrollment, and whether checkout opens inside the app or in the phone's browser
    • Video & content protection: blocking screenshots and screen recording, the video watermark, how long video links last, and a required watch time
    • Lesson content (HTML & code): how lessons are shown, the height of embedded tools, code highlighting
    • Store app: the banner, delivery dates and gift messages
    • Notifications (Firebase): see Push notifications with Firebase
    • Updates & maintenance: a minimum app version, and maintenance mode with a message

Changes apply in the app the next time it opens, without a new build.

  7. 7

Choose My WordPress site on the Website step

In your Yallapp dashboard, open App setup › Website, choose My WordPress site, enter your website's https address and select Save & continue. The step shows whether the plugin is connected.

  8. 8

    Memberships and subscriptions

The app follows the memberships your website gives access with:

    • Paid Memberships Pro: a course set to Require membership says in the app which plans open it. Students without one can't join it from the app; members join it in one tap, and its lessons close when their membership ends, as on your website. Set such courses as free in your LMS.
    • WooCommerce Subscriptions and LearnDash groups: your LMS gives access as it does on your website.

Students see their memberships, subscriptions and groups under Account › My memberships, with when they renew or end. They're sold and managed on your website only: on Android the course page can open your website's memberships, and the iPhone app never links to them, as Apple's rules require.

  9. 9

    Shop orders

With WooCommerce, customers see their orders in the app and are told when one changes:

    • Tracking: add it with WooCommerce Shipment Tracking or Advanced Shipment Tracking, as you do now. The customer gets a notification, and the order in the app shows the carrier, the tracking number and a Track shipment button. Changing the tracking tells them again.
    • Completed, cancelled or refunded: the customer gets a notification when you change the order's status.
    • Returns: in the plugin's Settings › Store app, set Returns in the app to the number of days after an order is completed that customers may ask to return it (0 for none). They choose a reason and can add a note on the order in the app. You get an email and see the request on the order in WooCommerce › Orders, where you approve or decline it with a reply; the customer is told in the app. Refund it in WooCommerce when you get it back. Yallapp plugin 0.4.17 or later.

Customers can turn order updates off in the app's settings. Yallapp plugin 0.4.16 or later.

Your pages, look and languages are built in the Yallapp dashboard, and the plugin fills them with your own courses, products and posts. The plugin's App pages and look card shows whether they're published and lets you refresh them at once.
