Ready to submit: what the stores check

Before Google Play and the App Store accept an app, their reviewers check a few things. Ready to submit? on the Publishing page checks them for you, each with a link to where you fix it.

Where to find it

It shows on the Publishing page once you've chosen who publishes your app: I'll publish it myself or Publish it for me. The Your first app guide on your Overview shows the same as Ready for the stores: how many things the stores check are missing, or that everything is in place. Before you choose, the guide asks you to choose who publishes the app.

How to read it

At the top, it says "Nothing here stops the review." or how many things stop it. Each item has a mark:

  • Ready: nothing to do.
  • Needed: this stops the review. Fix it opens the page where you fix it.
  • To know: it doesn't stop the review by itself, but there's something for you to do or know. Open shows where.

Sign-in for the reviewers

Apple and Google turn down apps they can't sign in to, and their reviewers can't receive a code.

  • When Yallapp signs people in to your app: set a Review phone number or a Review email address and a Review code on App sign-in. Until you do, this item is Needed. Then reviewers sign in with them and the fixed code, and no message is sent. See App users and sign-in.
  • On WordPress: turn on review access in the Yallapp plugin's settings on your website, with a test number or email and a fixed code, and write it in the notes for the reviewers.
  • On your own API: give the reviewers an account they can sign in with, in the notes for the reviewers.

When we publish for you, write these notes in For the store reviewers (optional) in your store listing details on the Publishing page. Once they're written, the item is Ready.

Privacy policy

Both stores ask for a privacy policy on a public web page. Add its address on the Store listing step of App setup. The address must start with https:// and the page must be public. Until then, this item is Needed.

Account deletion

This item is always Ready. People delete their account in the app, under Account › Settings › Delete account. Google Play's Data safety form also asks for a web page where people can ask to delete their account without the app. Yallapp gives your app one: its address is under this item and ends in /delete-account. Copy it into the Data safety form.

No prices on iPhone

This item shows when your plan includes the iPhone app, and it's always Ready: the iPhone app is made to follow Apple's rule for your kind of app. In an academy, the iPhone app never shows buy buttons for paid courses; free enrolment works on both phones, and your Android app opens your checkout as usual. Shops, events and donations follow their own rule, which the item spells out. Keep prices and buy links out of your App Store description and screenshots too.

Store listing

The stores need your app's name on the stores, a short description, a full description and a support email. You add them on the Store listing step of App setup. When we publish for you, they also need a Google Play category, an App Store category and content rating notes, in your store listing details on the Publishing page. Anything missing is listed under "Still missing", and the item is Needed.

Screenshots

Google Play needs at least 2 phone screenshots. When your plan includes the iPhone app, the App Store needs at least 1 iPhone screenshot too. Add them on the Store listing step. When you publish yourself, too few screenshots is Needed. When we publish for you, it's To know: we take the rest from your app, and you can add your own if you prefer.

When everything is ready

When you publish yourself, follow Publish on Google Play and Publish on the App Store. When we publish for you, our team takes it from there. If a store turns your app down anyway, see If the store rejects your app. If a build fails on the way, see When a build or a connection fails.
