News and blog apps
News & blog apps show your articles: the top stories, the latest ones and a row per section on the home screen, every article in its own screen, search, and a Saved tab where readers keep articles to read later on their phone. Readers can share any article. Reading is free for everyone: there's no paid content in the app.
From your WordPress site
Install the Yallapp plugin (see Install the WordPress plugin). The app shows your published posts with their featured image, categories and author. Private and password-protected posts never show. Sticky posts are the top stories. Articles look like they do on your site: pictures, YouTube and Vimeo videos and embeds are sized for the phone.
To tell readers about new posts, turn on Notify app users about new posts in the plugin's settings (Yallapp › Settings › Notifications). Each new post is then pushed to people signed in to the app, unless you tick Don't notify app users about this post in the post's In the app box. Push needs your Firebase project (see Push notifications with Firebase).
From your site's RSS feed
Any website with an RSS or Atom feed works: WordPress (at /feed), Ghost, Blogger, Substack, Medium and most news systems. Choose My site's RSS feed on the Website step and paste your feed's address; we read it to check it before saving. New articles show in the app a few minutes after they're in your feed. The feed must be on https, and its address must be the final one (we don't follow redirects).
Feeds can't tell us when an article is new, so breaking news isn't sent automatically. Send an alert yourself from App notifications when you need to.
Articles written in Yallapp
Choose I don't have a website on the Website step, then write on the Articles page:
- a title, an optional summary (made from the article when you leave it empty) and the author shown in the app
- the article itself: paragraphs, headings, lists, quotes, links and pictures from https addresses; YouTube and Vimeo videos show as players
- a picture (PNG or JPEG, up to 5 MB) and its sections
Save a draft while you work, publish it to show it in the app, and unpublish it to take it out again. Mark the important ones as top stories. When you publish, tick Send as breaking news to push the article to your readers' phones; it also lands in their notifications inbox and opens the article.
On the same page you set your sections and whether articles show their author and date.
Your pages
The home page starts with a search box, the top stories, the sections and the latest articles. Change it on Pages & look: list blocks can show the latest articles, a section's, the top stories or articles you pick.
